PROACTIVE ACTORS ORGANIZE TO SHOWCASE TALENT

Los Angeles, CA - - September 20, 2007 - New York transplants are not waiting for the phone to ring. These young actors and producers have formed an alliance to put on a play which will run from the 27th of this month through Oct 21 at the Actor's Playpen.

The play, Den of Thieves, written by Stephen Adly Guirgis, (The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Our Lady of 121st St. and Jesus Hopped the “A” Train), is the second play by Guirgis to run in LA this year. His last play, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot just closed on August 26th at the Lutheran Church of the Master in Westwood. So if you want more Guirgis, here’s your chance.

Bringing the vibrancy of theater and live performance to LA, Den of Thieves is directed by Alan Spero, who honed his directing chops at CBS, HBO, and MTV Networks in New York City. He headed west in 1993 to join FOX where he wrote and directed original interstitial comedy programming with talent like George Carlin, Roseanne Barr, Magic Johnson and the cast of “Married with Children." Currently, Alan is Executive Producer and Director of Electronic Arts’ new series “Battlecast PrimeTime”, EA’s first venture into broadband television programming.

Den of Thieves is the comedic story of four unlikely accomplices: Maggie (Rachel Chapman), a junk-food-binging shoplifter ready for change; Paul (Seth Shapiro) a recovering thief, compulsive over-eater and sponsor to Maggie; Flaco (Tyler Gates), the smooth talking plot ringleader and ex-boyfriend of Maggie; Boochie (Lauren Waisbren), Flaco’s current dancer girlfriend. They concoct a plot to rob a Manhattan nightclub, but when the plan falls apart, the quartet of hapless thieves are caught and given the judgment of “one body and three thumbs”. Verbal gymnastics and the struggle for self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-love produce a high-octane battle for survival.
