Re: bombay dreams - I auditioned

    Hey there,

    In response to your post:

I auditioned for Bombay Dreams this past April in NYC. The casting agents were VERY kind and seemed to do their best to accomodate the vast numbers of people who showed up. My audition went well, but they were not telling anyone ANYthing.

A few weeks ago, I was called back. The callback went extremely well, and the following day, the casting agent called me again to come in once again. This second callback is actually coming up. I went to the agency to pick up sides, as they are having me read for one of the principle roles. So, things are going well. However, given that the show does not begin rehearsals until January, who knows how long this casting process will take?

Anyone else's experiences auditioning for this show? Mine have been very positive thus far...

    Re: bombay dreams

I saw a lot of people I knew at the L.A. auditions.

I went out for a part that had no singing or dancing (??) but I did see a bunch of people coming back for dance tryouts.

To my knowledge, they were only here for 4 days and most people are still waiting for a call.

    We'll see...

    Re: bombay dreams

    Kiran,

It's frustrating isn't it?? They're so good at keeping up the poker face. But, they were extremely nice, which is a refreshing change from some casting agents. At my second callback, there were about 15 of us there, reading/singing for various parts- Akaash, Priya, Sweetie, and assorted others.

As rehearsals do not begin until January, I think the sanest solution is to not think about it too much.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of us. Break a leg!

    Hi Farah:
Did you audition in Toronto? And any word from them? Like Kiki said in this forum, it is probably going to be a long wait for us too, but with the help of friends here, we will most likely manage the wait. It would be great to get feedback.
    Raj.

    Re: bombay dreams

    Hey Kiki:
Great to read your thoughts - I am in Toronto and auditioned here last week. Gosh, it has been frustrating not knowing what is going to happen and when. I suppose we will all have to wait along....until one of us will finally get some word! So, lets promise to keep in touch here and wish each other the good luck of being on Broadway we all deserve.
    Raj.

    Re: bombay dreams

    Hey Raj,

I hope you had a great experience auditioning. I am thinking only positive thoughts for all who went out for Bombay Dreams. And remember, just being seen by Tara Rubin Casting is really wonderful. They are responsible for casting a huge number of shows, on Broadway as well as the touring companies. So, getting that exposure is GREAT.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you,

    Kiki

    Re: bombay dreams

    Hi Kiki:
Thanks for writing - I really appreciate that especially since I am so anxious, which I am sure you understand! My experience was alright, because everything happened so fast. When the show was originally slatted to come to Toronto, I was estatic, however, then we got a confirmation that Toronto was scratched off, I suppose that is when I just took off my shoes, so to speak, and was totally unprepared for the quick turnaround.
I am surprised they had only 15 final callbacks in NYC as I thought there would be many more. Do you think there was a lot of talent or perhaps just people trying out?? But all the same, you are one of the potential finalists and I wish you luck. Kiki, please let me know when you hear something from them.
Thanks again for keeping in touch and making me feel a lot better as I have someone to compare notes with.
    Raj.

    Re: bombay dreams

I am wondering if you ever found out whether there has been any finalization of the casting for the NYC show? Has anyone been contacted?

    Re: bombay dreams

    Hi guys,

No word yet. This is pretty standard though. Remember that rehearsals don't begin until January, and for a B'way show, the cast is often not finalized until the month before. I had heard rumours that the team would also be going to Seattle, San Fran, etc. so this may be the case.

Also, the last callback i was at was most likely only the beginning. B'way shows, especially this one, will call people back 12 or 13 times if they need to. I think these will happen sometime in the fall, who knows when?

Nobody i know has heard anything from the casting agents, so the process is far from over.

    Break a leg, everyone!

    Kiki

    Re: bombay dreams

Hello all, I stumbled onto this site doing research for my Bombay Dreams Callback. Here is my experience thus far (let me preface this by saying that I am an Equity actor based in NYC) - I went to the open call in NYC in June. In July I got calledback to sing for Tara. About a week later, they called me and gave me sides (scenes from the script) for one of the roles and I sang and did the scenes for the musical director, director and dance captain from London. I had a great response from them and they called me a week later to tell me that they were interested in me and that they would be having final auditions late September/early October. Today, Tara's office called me to tell me that final NYC Auditions would be Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 1. They did not assign me a time, and said that they did not yet know how it would be scheduled (if they would need me for one day, several days, etc.)However, they are having me come in this afternoon to pick up the script, more sides and music to start preparing. So that's the experience I have had so far. And actually, Tara told me at one of my callbacks that the Broadway company would be completely cast by the end of October. Hope that helps you all out a little...

    Re: bombay dreams

This helps a lot actually. And thanks for the update. I am sure you are really excited about the call to audition for the finals. I wish you luck and hope you get the part! Many of us have been really anxious as to what was happening and your post will no doubt bring some needed relief.
I am hoping you will find the time to give us an update after your final audition. That would be fantastic. Thanks once again and break a leg!
